Abstract
355,836. Golf bags; straps. MOBBS, H., Church Brampton, Northamptonshire. June 4, 1930, No. 17157. [Class 132 (ii).] The shoulder strap of a golf bag has a supple middle portion and stiff end portions so that, when the bag is placed on the ground and the strap released by the player, the strap maintains its arched formation. The stiff portions a, b may be made each from a single tapered piece of spring steel covered with leather or they may each be constructed of two pieces 36, 38 of uniform width, Fig. 3. The portions a, b are pivoted in pins 40 secured to the bag and prevented from rotating. To assist the handle in keeping its erect position the friction at the pivots 40 is increased by spring members 48. The parts a, b may also be composed of a number of layers of leather without the insertion of a steel strip. The more flexible portion c is made of leather or canvas with a spring steel strip if desired. The lower end of the strap may be detached and fitted to the bottom of the bag by a fastening 50. A hinged support 18 and a foot 22 are provided. Two steel strips placed end to end may be inserted in the part b, a slidable sleeve covering the joint so that the part may be folded into two to allow the strap to rest against the bag.
