[Class 52 (iii).] The top of a typists' or like desk is formed with a series of compartments arranged to contain paper and other requisites beneath a top surface adapted to receive a typewriter, and one or more of these compartments is fitted with a movable partition or other member adapted to move the front edge of a stack of paper in the compartment forward to its front edge. The Figure shows a top consisting of two superposed pieces 2, 3 of plywood connected at the rear and sides by spacing members such as the part 4. Partitions such as 14, 18, 29 divide it into compartments 22 &c., closed by lids 26 &c. Certain of them are fitted to receive, for example, inkwells, pens, pins, and clips. The partitions 29 at the rear of the larger compartments are moved forwards by flat spring arms housed in slots 32 in the side walls of the compartments ; after raising the lids 26, these arms and the partitions 29 may be pushed forwards so as to push forward the paper in the compartment. A large compartment near the centre of the table has a pair of hinged lift-up lids with front edges extending slightly beyond the front closing wall of the compartment. The other top parts of the desk have recessed front edges 36. The device may be made as a top for attachment to existing tables, or may be made with legs or supports so as to form with them a complete table.
