Abstract
354,001. Drying pulp board. BECHER, H. L., P.O. Box 130, Trenton, New Jersey, U.S.A. June 13, 1930, No. 18226. Convention date, July 13, 1929. [Class 96.] Raw wood fibre, chemically digested wood fibre, newspaper stock, straw, bagasse, &c., pulped in a beater, moulded, &c., has the bulk of the water removed and is then subjected to heat to remove the interstitial water with substantially no applied pressure and then to heat and pressure to remove the water colloidally associated with the fibres. The resulting board may contain a binder such as montan wax, sulphur, shellac, mineral pitch, asphaltum, gilsonite, china wood oil, resins, lignins, sizes, &c. Heating is effected by steam-filled platens of a hot press at a temperature sufficient to soften the binder if a fluxing binder is used ; pressure is then applied, the board being thus prevented from warping, and being released when completely dry without cooling the platens. A wire screen on one or both sides of the board may be used to facilitate escape of water vapour. Specification 7301/08, [Class 96, Paper &c.], is referred to.
