Abstract
341,806. Internal pipe cutters. BURMAH OIL CO., Ltd., 175, West George Street, Glasgow.-(Barnard, R. G. ; Yenangyoung, Upper Burma.) April 16, 1930, No. 12003. [Classes 83 (iii) and 83 (iv).] Internal pipe cutters comprise a series of tools radially movable within a rotary cutter head, with antifriction bearing members above and below the tools which are disposed in the same transverse plane. The tools 14 slide radially in a holder 9, their inner ends being dovetailed to slide in ways on a cone 15 in screw-threaded engagement with a stationary spindle 3. Balls 8, 12 or rollers &c. held resiliently outwards by springs 7, 11 form bearings on the inner surface of the tube. A slow rotation of the apparatus causes the cone 15 to travel down the screw, the tools being thereby fed into the work, but retracted by springs 18 when the top of the cone has passed to permit withdrawal. The work may be held in tension by a ring and wedges or other means. Recesses for the passage of cuttings are provided in the tool holder, ball guide, and bearing sleeve. A device of known form for supporting the lower end of the spindle 3 is shown. Turning.-The parting tools may comprise four cutters, one to effect a leading-cut of V-shape, a clearance cutter of square shape, and two side clearance cutters.
