Abstract

347,476. Stop valves. DEWRANCE, SiR J., 165, Great Dover Street, Southwark, London. Jan. 22, 1931, No. 12398/30. [Class 135.] Piston valves ; actuating mechanism.-In a rack- and pinion-operated tubular piston valve having a stop block 30 on or adjacent the pinion 8 coacting with arcuate stop recesses or projections in the casing, a detachable bearing cover-plate 27. is provided on the side opposite the packing gland 7 to facilitate the insertion of the pinion spindle 25. The casing stops 31, 32 are formed in the interior of, the pinion housing, as shown, or on the detachable cover-plate, or externally on the gland casing to co-operate with a projection from the operating handle. The rack is formed with an internal passage to ensure balance. The valve operates in the usual packings 15, 19 secured by a cage and gland 17, 18, and enclosed by the cover 20. Similar packings may be provided between the part 10 of the valve and the rack 6.
