Abstract
344,006. Joint-making packing. SHAW, H. S. HELE-, 64, Victoria Street, London. Nov. 21, 1929, No. 35701. [Class 122 (iii).] In pipe joints of the kind wherein fluidtightness is secured by a rubber &c. ring a having inturned flanges c adapted to embrace the pipe ends and to be subjected to the internal fluid pressure, the grip of the flanges upon the pipe ends is increased by spiral springs b which are preferably moulded or otherwise embedded therein. The springs, which may be of round or square cross section, have their coils abutting in the normal condition, so that they are capable of elongation but incapable of shortening until stretched. Fig. 4 shows a modified spring which consists of a plain ring b<1> divided or split at b<2> to form abutting ends b<3>, b4, the latter being disposed within a sleeve b<5>. Specifications 149,381 and 190,318, [both in Class 99 (i), Pipes and tubes, Joints &c. for], are referred to in the Complete and Provisional Specifications respectively.
