Vaporizers, external-In devices in which the air for combustion is heated and cleaned by being drawn through a cover or enclosure applied to the cylinder head, which is thereby cooled, the cover is provided with two filter chambers in parallel. As shown, a pressed metal cover a is detachably secured to the cylinder head h by bolts j and is provided at the upper part with two filter chambers b<1> having perforated inlets f and perforated outlets g which open into a chamber i connected to the carburettor air inlet, The cover is provided with air inlets q adjacent the sparking plugs e, only one of which is shown, the plugs being cooled by the ingoing air. The filter chambers b<1> may contain oiled horse hair or similar material or vanes adapted to impart a rotary motion to the air. The base of the cover may be extended to make contact with the exhaust manifold. In a modification, the cover is hinged to the cylinder head.
