Abstract

Jacquards.-A mechanism for moving a number of (say) thread carriers through different distances comprises sliding members 11 each connected to one of the thread carriers and fitted with a number of stops 12 corresponding to the number of different threads, a like number of vertical rows of horizontal wires 30 for moving the stops 12 into operative position, groups of cardoperated slats 31 notched at the side to receive the flattened parts 30<b> of the wires 30, a reciprocating frame 70 carrying angle bars 35 to move the selected wires 30 and stops 12 horizontally, a vertically reciprocated knife 20 for lifting the members 11 and the thread carriers through different distances as determined by the selected stops 12, and a board 80 which is oscillated to knock all displaced stops 12 back into inoperative position after each operation of the jacquard. As shown, there are four slots 31 in each group and when any selection is lifted slots in all the slats register opposite the flattened part 30b of one or other of the wires 30 in each vertical row, and this wire, which is laterally stressed by a rod 33, springs into the registering slots when the rod 34 of the laterally reciprocated frame 47 allows it to, and brings the end of the wire 30 into the path of one of the bars 35. Half the wires 30 are cranked as shown at 30<c> so as to produce the number of bars 35 that are required. Also half the feeler ends 31<c> of the slats 31 are cranked so that all the slats can be controlled by two rows of holes in the card C. After each lift of the card cylinder 110 it is moved laterally by cam mechanism 100 to bring a new pair of rows of holes in the card into operation, the cylinder only being rotated after several operations.
