338,100. Austin, Sir H. Sept. 23, 1929. Divided on 337,465. Hoods.-In road vehicles having a roof comprising roof members guided by the cant rails the latter are provided with an inwardly extending strip which enters a groove in the end of each or alternate transverse roof member. Fig. 1 shows a plate or strip G secured to the cant rail A and having a depending flange g entering a groove h in a plate H secured to the roof member C. The groove h prevents the roof member rising away from the cant rail at the rear of the vehicle where the restraining strip b<1> is discontinued. The roof is folded by means of a wire coil F secured to the flexible cover D. In the form shown in Fig. 3, in which the front roof member is secured to and operated by a chain guided in guides K the plate G<1> passes between the guides K and enters a groove formed by the cranked end of a plate H' secured to the roof member C<2>. Lubricated felt J is provided in an aperture in the ends of the roof members.
