Stays; checks.-In a folding stay for doors or windows, one of the joints consists of two oppositely-dished members 10, fixed to the two 'arms 15, Fig. 3, with a lenticular resilient pad clamped between them by a bolt and hand-nut 12 so as to resist relative rotation between the parts. The device normally only damps the motion of the door, but may be tightened to hold the door against light pressure. In the form shown in Fig. 2, one dished part 2 fits into the other part 10, and the pad 9 is of substantially uniform thickness. The member 2 is carried by the door and the member 15 is connected to a rod 17 pivoted on the door-post. In this form the downward bending of the rod 17 produces an additional checking effect when the door is nearly closed. The nut 12 may be arranged to be slackened by operation of the door handle.
