Abstract
336,437. Needham, W. Oct. 16, 1929. Road-surface boxes.-A street gulley grid or a cover for manholes, meters, lamp-eyes, and the like, arranged in roads and pathways is made. in two parts a which are each provided with the whole of its seating inclined to the horizontal plane and arranged so that the two seatings are inclined in opposite directions. The cover may be of any shape in plan, such as round, square, hexagonal &c., and the divisional line may be diametrical, diagonal, longitudinal, or transverse. The two triangular parts a, Fig. 2, may be provided with a continuous pendant flange e and the abutting sides b may be connected together by bolts d. The frame f, Fig. 4, is made with a recessed seating g inclined in two directions to receive the cover sections a. An internal peripheral flange h may be formed at the lower part of the frame f. If desired, the cover may be hinged to the frame. The top of the cover may be plain or studded, or may be recessed to receive a concrete &c. filling.
