Rotary machines.-A multi-unit rotary printing-machine of the kind in which a plurality of perfecting units 1 - - 8 are arranged in superposed decks, and folders C, D for associating the printed webs are arranged near the units, is constructed with a web supply comprising superposed running and inactive webs 10, 11; 12, 13; 27, 28; 29, 30; 47, 48; 49, 50; 51, 52; 53, 54; for each unit, located in a space substantially co-extensive with the width of the units, and web guides for leading the webs from the running web rolls around the inactive web rolls to the respective units, when the lower rolls are the running rolls. The rolls 10, 12 &c. are spaced apart to permit a spare roll s to be passed between them, and this roll can replace either of the rolls 10, 11, 12 &c. when exhausted. The units are fed alternately from the upper and lower rolls, and the arrangement is adapted to enable the rolls for two decks of units to be arranged in the space ordinarily occupied by the web rolls for a single deck machine. The rolls may be arranged above the printing units in a manner similar to that shown. The machine shown is arranged to perfect four webs by the units, 1, 2, 5, 6, and associate these at the folder C, and also to perfect four webs by the units 3, 4, 7, 8 and associate these at the folder D. The paths of the webs through the units are shown in full lines, but the webs may pass to the first guiding roll, e.g. 14 from the Toll 10 as shown in full lines, or from the roll 11 as shown by dotted lines. If it is desired to pass the webs from the units 1, 2, 5, 6 to the folder D the path of the webs from the first four rolls is as shown by dotted lines, and eight webs may be associated at the folder D, or an additional folder not shown, at the right of Fig. 1, may associate four webs from the second set of four rolls, the webs from which pass through the units 3, 4, 7, 8 as indicated by dotted lines.
