Abstract

334,736. Voorwinde, W. Sept. 30, 1929. Grab-buckets.-A grab having a pair of pivotally connected scoops is opened and closed by means of epicyclic gearing, the driven members of which are connected to the scoops. The operating ropes 16, 17 pass over guide rollers 18 mounted on the arms 22 and are wound in opposite directions on a two part. drum 15, the part of larger diameter being for closing the grab. The drum is keyed on the pivot 10 which carries the sun-wheels 12, 12a of an epicyclic gear, driving planet-wheels 13, 13a mounted on discs 14, 14<a> rigidly connected to one scoop, the planet-wheels also engaging toothed rings 11, 11<a> mounted on the other scoop. By hauling on one cable or the other the grab is opened or closed. In a modification each scoop carries a toothed ring and planet-wheel, the sunwheels turning in opposite directions, each being driven by a duplex drum having a pair of hauling cables. In another modification the toothed rings 11, 11<a>, Fig. 3, are not rigidly connected to the scoops but are coupled together by a connecting rod 11<b>.
