Abstract

334,527. Leech, C. B., (Assignee of Beattie, E. J.). Nov. 19, 1928, [Convention date]. Cutting plaster bandages.-A portable cutting appliance, particularly applicable to the cutting and removal of plaster bandages, comprises a rotatable tool 14 having three helical cutting edges, of high pitch, and a guide foot 17, comprising a bevelled disc, freely rotatable about the tool and having a recess at 20 forming a supporting bearing therefor. The tool 14 is secured to the shaft of an electric motor 3 preferably by screwing. The guide foot 17 is connected by a strut 16 with a cap 11 rotatably secured to an extension of the motor bearing 5 by screws 12 which engage an annular groove in the bearing. The strut 16 is formed with a pin 25 which functions to clear the tool and to assist the latter to remove the cut material. The motor 3 is supported by a bifurcated member 2 the arms of which are secured to the upper motor-bearing 4 and to the casing at 6. The member 2 is formed with a handle 1 through which the motor leads 22 pass, the motor being started by a switch 24 in the form of a trigger. In use the guides foot 17 is pushed beneath the edge of the plaster bandages b in contact with the patient a; the motor is then started and the cutter caused to traverse the material in any desired direction, the cutter being turnable through relatively sharp angles without difficulty. The cap 11 may be locked against rotation when desired by a screw 27.
