Abstract
322,829. English Electric Co., Ltd., and Hassler, E. H. H. Sept. 24, 1928. Mounting rotors; casings and frames; carcase structures.-Concentric members forming the rotor or stator structure of a dynamo - electric machine are spaced radially apart by pairs of axially disposed plates at an angle to one another forming a starshaped arrangement when viewed axially and joined to the concentric members by fusion of metal. As applied to a rotor, Figs. 3 and 4, the pairs of plates a, b are welded longitudinally to the shaft c and to longitudinal bars d. At intervals, the bars are connected by rings e, the bars and the plates being notched to receive the rings. Pegs a are driven into the shaft close to the ends and pegs h into the bars d to locate the edges of the plates, spot-welding being employed during the erection. In the case of long rotors, intermediate pegs may be employed. On completion, all the joints are welded and the bars d are turned to receive the laminations. The laminations are keyed to the bars and it is only necessary to make keyways j in one pair of diametrically opposite bars. The plates connected to the key-bars only need be welded to the shaft along their whole length; the remainder may be welded at intervals as at k. Apertures m in the plates allow cooling air to traverse the rotor laminations. Fig. 2 shows the invention applied to a stator. If the radial distance between the laminated core and the frame is small, ordinary L-iron may be used instead of the plates a, b. A single key bar d may be employed. Angle members n may be used as external stiffeners and these may be fitted with lifting rings p.
