Abstract

322,809. Pilkington Bros., Ltd., and Waldron, F. B. Sept. 14, 1928. Flat extended surfaces, surfacing and polishing.-In a continuous grinding and polishing machine for glass plates, in which cloth, rubber or paper, &c. is laid on the moving tables to prevent contact of the glass therewith, the cloth, &c. is laid automatically on the tables, and removed automatically therefrom after grinding, &c. Brackets 1 are provided at the starting end of the machine and carry a mandrel 4 supporting a roll 5a of cloth; the cloth 5 is partially unwound, laid on the first table, and a sheet uf glass is placed thereon, the movement of the table unwinding the cloth to lie on following tables. At the finishing end of the machine brackets 2 are provided, carrying in vertical guides a mandrel 6 on which the used cloth is wound, the mandrel being driven either by contact with the moving tables, or by other means giving a speed varying according to the diameter of the roll of used cloth.
