Floors, waxing and polishing. - A manuallyoperated machine for waxing and polishing floors comprises a polishing brush driven from friction wheels moving over the floor surface, and supply means for the polish comprising a reservoir feeding a regulatable amount of polish to the interior of a spreading brush. As shown, friction wheels 1 with rubber tyres, when pushed over the floor transmit motion to a shaft 3 and therefrom, by bevel gearing, to a disc 9, having spring connection with the polishing brush 11. The polishing brush completely surrounds the driving friction wheels, which are provided with rollers 20, 21 capable of bridging uneven surfaces. A ratchet wheel and pawl device inserted in the bevel gearing driving mechanism ensures a drive only when the friction wheels are moved in one direction. The polish is contained in a reservoir 23 with a spring-pressed plunger 34 and with a regulating valve 28 which discharges the polish to a flexible sleeve 36. The sleeve 36 is surrounded by a brush 37. The plunger is connected to a sleeve 35 having at one end a nut 32 forming an abutment for the spring 29, the nut being forced downwardly to feed the polish by means of a screwed shaft 30. The polishing brush is connected to the disc 9 by means of a pair of inclined hinge like members 13 against which bear springs 15. The tension of the spring is adjustable by means of a nut 17. The handle 22 for pushing the device over the work is preferably arranged at an angle of about 45‹ at which position the line of thrust will pass through the axis of the shaft 3, as indicated by dotted lines.
