Abstract

Feeding webs.-To facilitate the threading of a new or broken end of a paper or other web upon a rotatable drum, for example in the printing-apparatus of a continuous-rod cigarette machine, the drum 5 is provided at one side with a groove in which runs an endless belt or cord 10, which forms a gripping-device into which one corner of the leading edge of the web is inserted, so that the web is led around the drum. The belt passes also over guide pulleys 11, 12, 13, the pulley 11 being adjustable, and the pulley 13 being arranged between the drum and a guide 15 which receives the web. At the point where the web is required to leave the drum and pass over a roller 21, this roller is carried by a spring- pressed lever 22, which also carries a wiper 26 by which the web is lifted from the drum and gripping-device as indicated at L. A second wiper 27 prevents the end L of the web from being wound up on the roller 21. A ratchet clutch 7 allows the drum to be rotated by hand when the machine is stopped.
