Abstract

326,746. Union Special-Maschinenfabrik Ges. Dec. 29, 1928, [Convention date]. Circular feed; presser-feet; feed by spiked plates.-In a machine for sewing circular articles such as powder puffs, the article is held by a circular pivoted presser-foot and a circular plate with projecting ribs for engaging pile fabric, and is fed step-by-step in a circular direction by the usual four-motion feed-dog. The circular presserfoot 7 is mounted to tilt through small angles on the bracket 15 of the arm 17 which is pivoted at 18 to a slide 19 adjustably secured to the presser-bar and held in position by a spring latch 20. The foot presses the pile fabric 1 into engagement with a circular plate 6 with concentric ribs 11, 12, 13. The plate is pivoted at 8 to the work plate 2a and can tilt through small angles. It has a leather ring 28 in a recess for engagement with the four-motion feed-dog 4 by which it is fed. The ribs may be formed on the presser-foot and the plate 6 dispensed with, the feed-dog then engaging the underside of the fabric. The auxiliary presser-foot 21 has an extension 26 forming a stitch finger which works in conjunction with the member 27 to turn the pile inwards and form a neat overseamed edge.
