Abstract
326,529. Johnson, J. Y., (I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.). Nov. 16, 1928. Manures.-In preparing mixed fertilizers containing ammonium nitrate and other ingredients by solidification of liquid mixtures, 6 per cent or less of substances soluble in the liquid and which will increase its surface tension are added thereto. The amount of water in the liquid is reduced to 10 per cent. Calcium nitrate, urea, salts of urea, sodium nitrate, sodium sulphate and other salts of sodium are mentioned as suitable substances capable of reducing the surface tension. According to one example a mixed fertilizer iscomposed of ammonium nitrate and calcium carbonate with a small quantity of calcium nitrate, a liquid mixture of these ingredients being solidified by spraying. In a second, the ingredients are ammonium nitrate, ammonium sulphate and a small quantity of Chili saltpetre; and, in a third, ammonium nitrate, ammonium sulphate and a small quantity of anhydrous sodium sulplate.
