Abstract

324,803. Wigan Coal & Iron Co., Ltd., and Leek, A. E. Jan. 25, 1929. Filters having sheet filtering-material; filters having loose filtering-material. - In that type of apparatus for the removal of solids from mixtures of liquids and solids, e.g. coal slurries, in which a number of filtering trays superposed within a container are pivoted about their axes so that they may be tipped to discharge the matter deposited thereon, the trays 2, 3 and 4 are mounted so that their axes 5 lie in vertical planes displaced from one another. The container 1 which is similarly inclined to the vertical, is filled by letting the slurry into it at a number of different levels. Filtering proceeds by allowing a bed to form by gravity upon the perforated surface of the trays, and then applying a pressure difference, so that the liquid is drawn through the filter beds on the trays and passes off through the draw off pipes 6 connected to the hollow trunnions 5.
