Abstract
324,478. Thimblethorpe, W. S. Dec. 13, 1928. Indicators actuated by floats.-Liquid-level and temperature indicators 16, 22 respectively are arranged on opposite sides of a fitting 4 attached to or used in placed of a vehicle radiator cap. A telescopic or jointed tube 5 having openings 5a into the water space of the radiator is carried by the body of the device, which has a hinged cap 29 for filling purposes and hollow arms 6, 7 carrying the housings 8, 9 of the indicators. Preferably the level is indicated by a float 12 mounted on a wire 13 engaging the wire shaft 15 of a balanced pointer arm 20, but a ball or like float connected by a chain to the pointer shaft may be used. The temperature sensitive element is housed in the interior of the central part of the fitting. The tube 5 may be screwed into an ordinary cap and be secured by a lock nut 11, or may itself fit into the filler neck, and the hinged cap 29 have a detachable top 30 which may be exchanged for a mascot &c. The indicator scales may be translucent and be illuminated by lamps in the vehicle lighting circuit. The ends of the housings 8, 9 may be fitted with removable lenses 19 providing red and green side signal lights, or opaque covers may be fitted.
