Reversing - gearing for washing-machines of the kind in which a drum 1 is automatically reversed every so many revolutions is adapted to enable the number of revolutions between reversals to be changed while the machine is operating. To effect this, change is made from one control device 8 to a separate control device 20. A driving - shaft 3 with pulleys 5 driven by open- and - crossed belts is geared to a main driving wheel 2. The belts are shifted by forks &c. 6 operated through a bellcrank lever from a reciprocating rod 7. The wheel 2 carries two pivoted kickers 13, 14, one for each direction of rotation. When the device 8 is operative, these kickers strike tappets 11, 12 on a sleeve 8 which is fed along rod 7 by successive impulses until it strikes a stop 9 or a stop 10, whereupon rod 7 is moved to shift the belts and effect reversal. The rod 7 is connected by a lever 18 to a second reciprocating rod 15 and a rack-and-pinion connection 23 is manually operable so as to turn the rods 7, 15 simultaneously. The tappets 11, 12 on sleeve 8 and tappets 20<a> &c. on sleeve 20 are thus brought alternatively into the plane of the kickers. The number of tappets on sleeve 20 is different to that on sleeve 8, and so the number of revolutions between reversals is varied by changing over. The rod 7 may be operated directly by a hand lever 24.
