Abstract
312,968. Lanchester, F. W. March 2, 1928. Buffers.-The faces of the buffers on a railway coach, locomotive or other railway vehicle d are shaped as the counterparts of the faces of the buffers on an adjacent vehicle e or f, while the body of each buffer has sufficient freedom in flexion to avoid rubbing between the mutually engaging faces. Preferably each buffer is formed as shown from a block of rubber or rubber "mix" a flanged at one end b for attachment to the vehicle by means of a clamping-ring, and provided at the other end with a saddle-shaped face g. Conveniently the buffers are disposed with their axes of symmetry at 45‹ to the horizontal, and, in order that reversal of a vehicle end to end may not affect the mutual interfitting of the buffers, the buffers lying on one diagonal line w, x, in plan view, are identically shaped and disposed, and similarly are those on the other diagonal line y, z.
