Abstract

311,632. Devienne, E. Oct. 12, 1928. Oars; rowlocks.-An oar operated by a simple pull and push motion has a blade 3, preferably curved in section, hinged to the member 1 by the bolt 2, the blade being maintained vertically in the water on the power stroke by the engagement of the stops 4, 5. Shock absorbing pads 6, 14, of felt, or springs, are provided. The oar is maintained at a constant inclination to the water surface by the hinged plate 7, bearing the thole 9 which passes through the member 1, and by the curved metallic rod 12 fixed to the side of the boat. For lightness, the blade may be made of celluloid, or aluminium, with a central cavity filled with cork. Specification 304,095 is referred to.
