Abstract

311,032. Jack, I. D. March 2, 1928. Joint-making packing.- A pipe A is jointed to the socket B of an earthenware &c. member by a resilientpacking ring C of U- shaped section, the limbs 4, 3 of which are adapted to be compressed against the surfaces of the pipe and socket respectively by a distorter D of annular formation inserted therebetween. The length of the packing-member is arranged to be about equal to the diameter of the pipe, while the exterior surfaces thereof may be plain or corrugated; the packing may also be provided with a metal lining. In a modification the distorter may operate to compress only one of the limbs, in which case the other limb is formed of such a size as to contact tightly with its co-operating surface.
