Abstract

318,228. General Motors Research Corporation, (Assignees of Falge, R. N.). Sept. 1, 192'8', [Convention date]. Multiple - filament lamps; filaments.-An incandescent lamp for motor vehicles &c. has normal filaments arranged for alternative illumination and one or more auxiliary filaments in circuit with, and of greater resistance than, the normal filaments to provide illumination on fracture of the latter. Fig. 1 shows one example of a doublebeam lamp mounted in a parabolic reflector 24, the lower part 28 of which is bent from true parabolic form in order that an upper filament 12 may project a downward beam. Filaments 12, 14, the latter situated at the focus, are connected to leads 16, 18 and to a common return 20. An auxiliary filament 22 is connected to the leads 16, 18. In a modification, an auxiliary filament is connected in parallel with each of the normal filaments.
