Piling materials in rope form; circulating or passing fluids through material.-A cloth-piler 27 and a lid or door 21 are mounted on a kier or cistern 1 by means of a bracket 8. 9 which is rotated on the pedestal 6 to bring either the pillar or the lid into position over the hole 4, when the bracket may be locked by a spring pin 40. The fabric-guiding funnel 32 (into which fluid may be introduced by a pipe 34) may be stationary and connected by the telescopic joint 33 to the piler, which is driven by a belt 30 from a pulley on the usual winch 31. The hole 4 is oval, and the correspondingly shaped lid 21 is suspended by horizontal pins 17 on a shackle 16 and chain 12 connected to lifting-gear 11, 13. When brought over the hole the lid is given a quarter horizontal turn on the chain 12 and a quarter vertical turn on the pins 17; it is then lowered through the hole, turned, raised, and finally secured, inside the kier by clamps 22. In this position a pipe 23 carried by the lid may be connected to the fluid supply at 37, a shaped and perforated baffle-plate 25, also carried by the lid, distributing the fluid.
