Abstract

Vibrations, indicating and registering. - A device for integrating vibrations comprises a mass of which the weight is in part nullified by resilient means attached to a frame, a wheel mounted on the frame and driven at constant speed, and means for applying the reduced weight of the mass as a braking means to the wheel. A bell crank lever mounted on a pivot 6 on the frame 1 supports on the long arm 5 a mass 4, while the other arm 7 is acted upon by a spring 8 the tension of which may be adjusted by a screw 9. A milled headed screw 14 passes through the mass and a band 13 attached to the mass after contacting with a clock-work driven wheel 2 is attached to a spring 10 the tension of which may be adjusted by a screw 11. In the case of a vibration, the screw is withdrawn from the drum and rotation of the latter is prevented until a determined amplitude of displacement between the mass and drum is exceeded. If now a series of accelerations be imparted the movement of the wheel will correspond to the integration of the times during which the relative movements of the mass and its support exceeds a predetermined magnitude. In the practical form of the apparatus, Figs. 2, 3, the mass 4 contacts directly with the rim 3 and the long arm 5 of the bell-crank is formed by a rigid arm 5 and flat spring 5<a>, the short arm 7 being formed with a quadrant 7a adjusted by a wheel 7<b> on the spindle of which is an adjusting pointer 7<c> moving over a scale 7<d>. A toothed wheel 18 similarly has a pointer 16 moving over a scale 17 and operates a quadrant 18 on one arm 19 of a bell-crank lever on a pivot 20 the other curved arm 21 of the lever being attached to one end of a spring 10 connected to the flexible band 13 attached to the mass 4. The wheel 2 is driven by a spring 22 through a crank lever 23 and gears. A pointer 26 moves over a scale 27 to indicate the revolutions of the wheel 2.
