Regulating transformers.-A magnetic shunt s is movable along the secondary 3, 4 so that an adjustable part a is directly coupled to the primary 1, 2 and the other part b is loosely coupled thereto. The windings can be disposed with half of each on the two outside limbs of the core, or a three-limb polyphase transformer can be used. Alternatively, a ring core with a rotatable shunt can be used. Part of the secondary can be interwound with the primary. The windings can be placed in slots in the core so as to reduce the air gap in the leakage path. The slots can be on both or one side of the core, in the latter case the coils may be former wound. Specification 245,069 is referred to.
