Abstract
302,129. Weil, J. A., Rawlinson, H., and Imperial Chemical Industries, Ltd. July 3, 1928. Catalytic agents, preparation of. -- Vanadium pentoxide, for use as a catalyst in vapour phase oxidation processes, is prepared by heating ammonium vanadate which has been purified by dissolving in water approximately to saturation, removing dissolved impurities, and reprec.ipitating by adding an ammonium salt, such as the nitrate, which yields non-reducing gaseous products on thermal decomposition. The precipitate, after washing with an ammonium salt of the kind above described is decomposed by heating, to say 350‹ C., if desired after incorporation with carriers ; or the vanadium pentoxide obtained may be coated on to carriers or incorporated with inert bodies.
