Dye preparations. - Dry solid preparations of dyestuffs suitable for dyeing cellulose acetate silk are made by evaporating to dryness in the presence of sulphite cellulose liquor a fine dispersion produced by stirring the dyestuff with water in the presence of saponin or a condensation product obtained from formaldehyde and a naphthalenesulphonic acid. Azo dyes, indophenols, and anthraquinone dyes are specified as suitable for treatment by this process. In an example, 1-amino-4-oxyanthraquinone is stirred with the condensation product of #-naphthalenesulphonic acid and formaldehyde until a sample introduced into water gives a homogeneous emulsion, sulphite cellulose lye is then added, and the mixture is evaporated to dryness. Saponin may be used instead of the #-naphthalenesulphonic acidformaldehyde condensation product, and similar preparations may be obtained from 1-amino-2- methylanthraquinone, 1 : 4 - diaminoanthraquinone, 1-amino-4-anilidoanthraquinone and 1- methylamino-4-anilidoanthraquinone. In a further example, acetate silk is dyed in vivid blue-red tints with a suspension obtained with the product from 1-amino-4-oxyanthraquinone. Specification 271,898 is referred to.
