300,156. Asiatic Petroleum Co., Ltd., Egerton, A. C., and Barton, C. H. Aug. 6, 1927, No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Motor spirit.-" Knocking" of petrol and like hydrocarbon fuel is reduced by dissolving therein about 0.5-1.5 per cent by weight of an alkali metal compound. Olea,te, naphthenate, or sulphonate of sodium potassium, lithium, rubidium, and caesium, and mixtures thereof are specified. A suitable sulphonate is obtained by acting on acid-treated petroleum fractions with potassium hydrate or carbonate.
