Exciting.-A variable speed dynamo with an auxiliary brush such as is used on motor vehicles and trains for charging batteries has a main field winding between one main brush and the auxiliary brush, a second, co-operating, field winding between the auxiliary brush and the other main brush and a switch in series with the latter so that it may be rendered inoperative at will. Over-charge of the battery may thus be prevented and charging effected at low speeds.
