Tell-tale apparatus.-In a system for indicating at a distance the position of apparatus, such as a valve, the apparatus controls a core 4 which co-operates with a part 1 of a magnetic circuit to form air gaps of constant and variable lengths and is movable relatively to a coil 5, 6 the former part of which generates a voltage to operate an indicating instrument 9 under the influence of a magnetic field produced by the part 6 which is supplied from a source of alternating current. In a modification the source of alternating current is applied to the whole coil and an indicating instrument is connected in series.
