Abstract

296,870. Williams, G. B., and Porter, W. J. H. July 30, 1927. Gratings.-Consists of a method applicable to - the construction of floor and other grids. of joining metal elements by upsetting or deforming a transverse metal bar or tube. The transverse bars or tubes 2, Figs. 1-3, are threaded through apertures in the parallel members 1 to be connected, and are compressed so as to force out protuberances 21 immediately adjacent to each side of each intersection. The elements 2, if bars, may be straight or wavy, and if tubes may be of circular, oval, polygonal, or other section, or of open section such as channel, Fig. 14, or semielliptical, Fig. 18. The apertures in the members - may fit the threaded bars or tubes so that the latter cannot rotate, and for non-circular apertunes the major axis preferably extends longitudinally and may be in the central axis of the members 1. Strengthening bulbs 1<a> and stiffening portions 3 may be provided.
