Abstract

296,273. Parker, J. March 13, 1928. Addition to 293,370. Flat endless-belt conveyers; auxiliary ropes; driving-gear; casings; sectional framework; guiding; guards and shields to prevent falling-off and spilling.-In order that the conveyer of the parent Specification may be used along the line of the working face in a coal mine, or in the road or gateway leading directly from the working face, its height is reduced considerably and its components are so designed that it can be assembled or dismantled in sections. The clamps 8 which embrace the edges of the belt 6 are pivoted on pins 7 carried by collars 9 which are slidable along the axles 5 between the wheels 4 and stops 10. The wheels 4 run on angle irons 3 which are supported at intervals by steel plates 1, 2. These parts are detachably connected by pins 19. Plates 17 are detachably connected to the loading side of the conveyer by studs 18 and prevent material from being thrown on to the lower run. Curved bars 14 detachably connected to the other side of the conveyer support inclined plates 16 which arrest any material thrown over the belt. Any material which passes between the lower edge of the plates 16 and the edge of the belt is prevented from falling on the lower run of the'belt by deflecting plates 21. In a modification the belt 6, Fig. 2, is clamped between a curved flat bar 5a which carries the axles of the rollers 4, and a thin strip 22 of flexible steel. In each of the constructions shown in Figs. 1, 2, the conveyer is driven by a rope which engages clips 11 capable of slight rotation on pins 13 carried by blocks 12 fixed to the axles 5. In another modification, the upper run of the belt is driven through clips 11<a>, Fig. 9, secured near the centres of the axles 5, and the lower run is driven through clips 11<b>. The driving rope 25, Fig. 5, is driven by a motor 23 through a sheave 24 around which it is wrapped two or three times and over which it passes to a return pulley 26. From the pulley 26 it passes round a pulley 32, Fig. 3, and is clipped to the lower run where the track 3 rises. The rope is unclipped where the track descends and passes over sheaves 30, 33 to the sheave 27, whence it passes round sheaves 28, 29 and is clipped to the upper run where the track rises above the sheave 30. At the other end of the upper run the rope is unclipped and passes round a sheave 31 to the driving sheave 24. The sheave 27 is on the same shaft as the drum around which passes the belt. This shaft is adjustable by screws 34 to tighten the belt or to slacken the belt and rope in order to permit the removal of the latter when the conveyer is to be shifted parallel to itself. Two coal face conveyers may be driven by a single motor situated in a roadway or gate extending from the junction of the two conveyers. The belt is divided into sections which are connected by hooks 40, Fig. 11, and slotted plates 38.
