Abstract
288,889. Albrecht, P. A. Aug. 27, 1927. Feeding-devices for portable endless - chain elevators with comb carriers; discharging- devices; driving-gear; casings; guiding endless chains; directing and adjustably supporting; guards to prevent falling off and spilling.-Apparatus for cleaning sugar beet and like produce and loading into a vehicle w comprises a receiving shoot d, delivering to a rotating cylindrical cleaner e, a spaced-bar receiving device f, an adjustable chain elevator g, work lifting bars h<2> working between the spaced bars and a delivery shoot k, k<1>, k<2> suspended from the elevator. The apparatus is mounted on a. wheeled frame a with swivelling front axle c and is driven by a motor m on the carriage. The feed-shoot d is formed of spaced bars arranged to form a trough. The cylinder e comprise longitudinal bars mounted in rings e<3> supported from a central spindle e<1> mounted in bearings e<2> and driven from the motor by belt, spur and wheel gearing. The cleaned produce drops on to an inclined grid f, f<1>, Figs. 2 and 3, and is picked up bv teeth h<2> on cross bars h<1> carried bv the endless chains h, Fig. 6 of the elevator g. The upper run of the elevator passes through a trough g<3>, with side walls g<4> and side guards f<4>, Fig. 2, at the feed end. The trough is adjustable about the axis g<1> of the lower sprockets h<3>, and rests upon ball-bearing rollers g<7> carried by hinged struts g<5> which are raised or lowered by a hand winch g<10> and ropes g<9>. Longitudinal bars j, Fig. 6, fixed to the trough g<3> may extend the whole length of the elevator to support the moving carriers and take the wear, and they are extended over the delivery end. The ends of the carrier bars h<1> work in angle-iron guides, Fig. 6. The beet &c. is delivered by the conveyer to a shoot k, k<1>, k<2> and the carrier teeth h<2> on the down run pass between the bars of a grid i supported on brackets i<1>. As shown in Figs. 2, 2a, the upper section k of the shoot is pivoted on the brackets i<1> at k<3> and supported by chains k<4>; the second section k' is pivoted on the first at k<5>, and the bottom section is hung from the second by chains k<6>, so. that the lower end of the shoot can be brought over any part of the vehicle. In a modification (Figs. 8 and 9, not shown) the section k is pivoted on a horizontal axis in a bracket pivoted on a vertical axis. The upper sprocket h<3> of the elevator is driven by a belt m<7> from a countershaft m<4>.
