Abstract
287,516. Valet, E. C. H. March 23, 1927, [Convention date]. Waxes, extracting.-A vegetable wax is precipitated by acid or otherwise from the lyes used in a process such as is described in Specification 277,163, [Class 64 (i), Heating liquids &c.], for obtaining pure cellulose from bagasse of sugar came. The bagasse is preferably dried, cut up) into small lengths, sifted to eliminate mechanical dirt &c., and is then softened in 10 parts of water containing 1.25 per cent of lime and 0.125 per cent of sodium sulphite in which it is finally heated for half an hour at a temperature not exceeding 195‹ F.; the solution, containing remnants of sugar chlorophyll, and resins soluble in lime is partially or totally drawn off. Caustic soda 20 parts, caustic potash 5 parts, and sodium sulphite 10 parts are now added to every 1000 parts of water present and the mass is boiled for 4-6 hours at 2-4 atmospheres pressure. Steam pressure is then blown off and 2.5 per cent pure fat or oil soap is added and the mass cooked for another half-hour. The lye is drawn off and acidified to precipitate the wax.
