Abstract

Magnetic instruments. - Relates to means for mounting a vibratory element such as the stylusbar of a gramophone sound-box, and consists in providing a torsion member, to which the vibratory element is attached, and a number of tension members, each of the latter being secured directly to the torsion member so as to extend at right-angles therefrom, between its ends, the tension members being also attached to rigid supports. The invention is shown as applied to a phonographic sound-box, but is also applicable to other apparatus such as electrical pick-up devices for gramophones, and electric relays or loud-speakers. As shown, the torsion member consists of a reed 7 to which the stylus bar 8 is fixed by soldering &c. Similarly secured to opposite sides of the reed and in the plane of its longitudinal axis, are two pairs of tension members 9 which may consist of sheet steel. The ends of all the members 7, 9 are rigidly clamped in a device, Fig. 4, consisting of two plates 10, 11 held together by screws 20 and two blocks 14, 18 recessed into the plates. The plate 11 is secured to the rim of the sound-box 12.
