Cleaning bottles.-Mechanism for inverting crates containing inverted empty bottles which have just been cleaned comprises a holder A adjustable for different sizes of crate and carried by a cylinder B, which is supported by rollers C, the cylinder being oscillated through half a revolution by a rack which is reciprocated by a crank arm D<1> driven through chain gearing d<2>, d<3> by a main shaft E and actuates the cylinder through gears b<2> and a toothed ring b secured to the cylinder. When a crate has been inverted, the insertion of a fresh crate pushes the inverted crate along the cylinder, which is at least twice the length of the crate, over a rising and falling table F formed in two parts. Each part is actuated by a cam G on the main shaft E, the cams operating through a lever g<2> connected by a link to the table. In operation, the table F is raised through apertures in the cylinder B, a crate is fed above it, and the bottles in the crate drop through apertures in the holder A on to the table which then descends to its lower position where a pusher H thrusts the bottles off the table F on to a removal conveyer. The pusher H is reciprocated by a slotted lever K which is operated by a crank L driven by chain gearing l<3> from the main shaft E. To guide the bottles, the table is provided with sliding side plates F<1> raised by stops f<2> as the table descends. After the next oscillation of the cylinder B, the insertion of a fresh crate pushes the erect empty crate on to a removal conveyer.
