Abstract

285,258. Bourdais, J. March 1, 1927. Emulsions, making.-The colloidal dispersion of material in a suitable fluid is effected by a grid or circular ring through which the material is forced under pressure, the grid or ring being built up of a number of plates 61 provided with spacing shoulders 62 to leave a predetermined distance 63 between the surfaces of adjacent plates. The plates are mounted in a frame 64 provided with securing screws 65. In Fig. 6 a centrifugal mill is shown for forcing the fluid and material through nozzles 32, 33, 34 of the rotor ducts 30 on to grid surfaces 25 carried by a member 21, which may be stationary or adapted to be rotated in either direction. The ducts 30 of the impeller 27 are fed through an inlet pipe 17, the members 21, 27 being mounted on coaxial shafts 13, 14. The material discharged from the nozzles impinges upon the grid surfaces and passes into a chamber 16 through passages 45. The grids may be mounted directly on the inner wall of the outer casing.
