Abstract
270,301. Hauser, M. April 28, 1926, [Convention date]. Heating by electricity; resistance furnaces.- A resistance material is composed of silicon, or a ferro-silicon comprising a high proportion of uncombined silicon, a chromium alloy and a ceramic raw material which in addition to ordinary materials such as clay, kaolin, felspar, steatite and quartz may contain frits, glasses, fused quartz and cement, and materials such as magnesia, magnesite, zirconium oxide and alumin and boric acid or borates. The proportion of boric acid and borates is stated to have a considerable effect on the temperature coefficient of the material. The mass may be burnt in a reducing atmosphere or in vacuo. Pins or wires from terminals may be inserted into the material before firing. The mass may be covered with a glaze or other non-conducting coating such as fireclay, stoneware or porcelain for a refracting coating containing magnesia or zirconia. Hot plates, tubes, muffles, vessels or crucibles may be formed of the glaze covered resistance or of ceramic materials coated with the resistance, or in the walls of which the resistance is embedded. Specification 15390/05 is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states that the silicon .and chromium alloy may be replaced by other metals and alloys of high melting points. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
