Abstract
279,286. Gaisman, H. J. Jan. 24, 1927. Stropping-apparatus.-Razors and stropping- machines of the kind in which the blade 10 is carried by a holder 9 on a, shaft 5 which is automatically oscillated by reversal of movement of the device along the strop 6 to bring the blade to trailing position, have the shaft 5 carried by a frame 2 which can rock with respect to the handle 11, so that the first action when movement is reversed at the end of the stroke is to tilt the frame, thus lifting the edge of the blade from the strop to prevent it from cutting the strop before rotation of the shaft 5 becomes effective. The razor shown is of known type in which shaft 5 and a strop-engaging countershaft 5 are geared together by pinions 7, 8 and are journaled in upstanding lugs 3 of the frame 2. The transverse portion of the frame has an orifice 12 with depressed seats 14 at opposite edges which receive pivot lugs 13<a> of a member 13 (shown separate, Fig. 8).Member 13 is retained in place by a member 15 below the frame and' having upstanding pins 16 passed through member 13 and riveted over. The handle 11 screws into a boss on member 15. The guard, provided with hooks 19 for engaging the edge of the blades in shaving position, is pivoted to the frame 2 by lugs 21 and rivets 22 and has an extension loosely embracing the handle and forming a finger-piece 23 by which the guard may be moved. The guard has a projection, not shown. which, when in the shaving position, bears against member 13 and prevents relative movement of the frame and handle.
