Abstract
276,466. Lea, N., and Radio Communication Co., Ltd. June 19, 1926. Magnetic instruments.-In an electromagnetic device for recording sound or for reproducing sound from a record, the mass of the vibrating system comprises only the needle or stylus forming part of the magnetic circuit and that portion of a rubber or like substantially non-resonant supporting member which is in contact with the needle or stylus. In the construction, Fig. 1, the gramophone needle N is held by a tube T of rubber &c. in a hole in a non-magnetic bridge B fixed to the magnets M and carrying two pole tips P<1>, P<2> forming extensions of the poles of the magnet M. One pole tip P<1> extends the full width and the other P<2> extends only half the width of the bridge piece B. In the modification, Fig. 3, the magnet is of E-shape having a common pole P<1> and two poles P<2>, P<3> of opposite sign to the common pole, the needle N being mounted in a tube T fixed in a hole in the pole tip P<1> or in a non-magnetic bridge piece carried by this pole tip.
