Charging; cooling.- In tunnel and other furnaces to which pulverulent fuel is fed through a rectangular slot 2 in the masonry 1, the feed slot is lined, to prevent coking of the fuel, with a hollow cooling device 5 fitted with baffles 6 and formed with inlets 3 and an outlet 4 for the circulation of cooling air or water.
