Abstract

267,859. Macnaughton., D. Dec. 11. 1926. Variable-speed ratchet gearing comprises intermediate transmission levers D which are rocked upon a control pivot shaft E from a crank shaft A. The lever load elements are sliding blocks F each connected to the shaft E by a rack R and pinion P. Turning the shaft E as by a worm spindle N thus varies the lengths of the load arms in unison. The blocks F are connected through ratchets to a driven shaft K. Each ratchet device may comprise a chain or belt G passing over a ratchet pulley H and an idler L, each chain &c. being connected to its block F by a link S. In the application to a vehicle, a suitable reversing- gear may be incorporated.
