Abstract

267,178. Kamm, L. Oct. 13, 1925. Piston pumps.-An air-compressing apparatus mainly for use with a paint gun or like sprays comprises an air-accumulator containing liquid into which a piston pump extends. Fig. 2 shows a high-speed piston pump 2, the barrel of which extends vertically down into the liquid 3 in the lower part of the air accumulator 1. The piston rod 21 is reciprocated by a lever 20 and rod 19 operated by an electric motor detachably connected to gearing 16-18, and replaceable by a petrol motor. A safety-valve 8, an outlet 9, with a gauge, and a filling-orifice and liquid-level indicator 5 are fitted, and the apparatus is mounted on a carriage 13, running on wheels 14 and movable by handles 32. The lower end of the pump barrel is fitted with a. spring air-outlet valve 36, and the piston is fitted with a cup leather and also with a spring air-inlet valve; these valves may be replaced by ball valves &c. The air may pass through the liquid, which cools it, or the outlet from the pump may be fitted with a tube through which the air passes without coming in contact with the liquid.
