Abstract

Discharging; cooling discharged materials.- In connection with a battery of horizontal coking-retorts, means are provided for conveying the discharged coke to any one of a number of associated cooling or other treatment chambers or to a separate cooling or quenching device. As shown, a receiver, comprising a rotatable platform a and a jacket c closed at the top, travels on rails disposed transversely of the retorts between the latter and a series of cooling- chambers k, the arrangement being such that the bottoms of the retorts, the platforms a, and the charging openings of the coolers k are all at substantially the same level. The platform a is provided with a stripper-plate b pivoted about a vertical axis so that it may be adjusted to deliver the coke, when the platform is rotated, at any desired point. The jacket c is formed, on opposite sides, with one or a series of closable openings for the reception and delivery respectively of the coke, and quenching sprays f may be provided in the cover. The rotary platform may be replaced by a stationary bottom having a stripper device movable parallel to the axes of the retorts, or by a base constituted by an endless conveyer band.
