Abstract
264,900. Hall & Co., Ltd., W., and King, G. B. Oct. 21, 1925. Shearing. - In a machine for pointing wires by means of a grinding - wheel in which the wires are rolled between a feedwheel and a saddle, the ends of the wires being ground during the rolling, take-off mechanism for removing the wires from the saddle, means for adjusting the wires axially to give all wires the same length, and a cutting or shearing member for severing the wires are provided. The wires are moved or rolled between a saddle 28 and a feed-wheel 12 and are fed after grinding, on to discs 1 carried by a shaft 3, thence on to grooved rollers 2, and then past an aligning wheel 29 and a cutter 24, the cut wires falling, through an opening 48 in a table 26 supporting the mechanism, into a receptacle. The wires are held on the discs 1 by guides 7 carried by rods 9 mounted in blocks 13, which are adjustable by screws 18 to move the guides radially of the shaft 3 and also adjustable tangentially of the discs; a nose 11 on the guides 7 leads the wires on to the discs 1, and spring or weighted members 49a ensure that the wires are parallel to the axes of the disos. The wires. upon leaving the discs 1, are fed thereby approximately radially into the grooves 6 in the discs 2, which are provided with guides 8 each having a nose and supported by a bridge 23 angularly adjustable about the shaft 4 of the discs 2. The guides also are adjustable towards and from the discs by a screw 15 and may be adjustable tangentially of the discs. The shafts 3, 4 are driven through toothed gearing 34 from a lay shaft 32 driven by the feed wheel. The aligning-disc 29 has a chamfered face 49 and is carried by an inclined shaft 36<a>, and the cutting-disc 24 is carried by a shaft 25 and co-operates with one of the discs 2, to effect the severing of the wires. The shafts 4 and 25 may be adjustable axially to adjust the length of the cut off wires, by screws 45 acting on ball thrust bearings. The discs 1, 2 may be driven at a peripheral speed greater than that of the feed wheel whereby the wires are separated and the guides 7 8 are adjusted. so as not to touch the wires, so that these, upon leaving the saddle, cease to rotate.
